This achievement has drawn commendations from global leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
President Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Meloni, emphasizing his belief in the continued strengthening of cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy. The two nations have been working closely to enhance their partnership across various domains including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Additionally, they have been coordinating on critical regional matters, such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine.
Meloni, who became Italy’s first female prime minister in October 2022, has built a strong rapport with Erdoğan, fostering regular dialogue on both bilateral and regional issues. Their relationship has been characterized by mutual efforts to expand strategic and economic collaboration, highlighted by their co-chairing of the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome in April 2025. During this summit, several pivotal agreements were signed to fortify their partnership.
The leaders most recently convened during the NATO summit in Ankara this past July.
