Eight nations, including Türkiye, have collectively cautioned against a new military attack on Iran, warning that such a move could escalate regional tensions and further destabilize the Middle East. In diplomatic talks held in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most effective avenues to address the ongoing crisis.
The meeting, which brought together representatives from Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy, focused on the growing instability in the region and the potential repercussions of continuing conflicts. The participating countries expressed their opposition to military escalation against Iran, noting that renewed attacks could widen the conflict rather than mitigate existing tensions.
Participants also discussed Israel’s impact on regional dynamics, the situation in the Black Sea, and security concerns related to the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. These strategic routes are critical for international trade and global energy markets, and disruptions could have severe global consequences.
Fidan highlighted that conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are placing considerable economic and financial pressure on countries worldwide. He underscored the necessity of international cooperation and effective diplomatic mechanisms to prevent additional destruction and support peaceful resolutions to these crises.
In a separate discussion, Fidan mentioned Türkiye’s ongoing talks with Egypt to address Cairo’s concerns over Ankara’s maritime agreement with Libya. He also expressed optimism about improving conditions to bring Libya’s rival factions closer together.
