Users concerned about losing voice access entirely can find alternatives. The voice feature continues operating normally through the web-based version of ChatGPT, accessible from any browser on any computer. Mobile users on iOS and Android also retain full voice capabilities, as do Windows desktop users. Only the Mac standalone application is affected.
The reasoning behind targeting specifically the Mac version remains somewhat unclear. OpenAI’s statement about focusing on unified experiences hints at technical incompatibilities between the current Mac app and future voice development plans. As AI voice interaction grows more sophisticated and central to user experience, standardizing implementations becomes increasingly important.
