Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has commended Senegal for its “brave and resolute stance” against Israeli actions in Gaza, calling the West African nation a model for the international community. Speaking at a joint press conference with Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in Ankara, Erdoğan praised Senegal’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
Erdoğan noted that Senegal has a long history of supporting Palestine, having chaired the U.N. Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People since 1975. He said that Senegal’s support, particularly in international forums, strengthens the voices of both nations on global platforms.
The Turkish president also delivered a strong message regarding the conflict, stating that the struggle would continue until the “genocide in Gaza ends” and those responsible are held accountable. He vowed that perpetrators would be brought to justice for the deaths of innocent children.
In addition to the discussion on Palestine, Erdoğan expressed satisfaction with the growing interest of African nations in Türkiye’s defense products and reaffirmed the deep-rooted ties between Türkiye and the African continent. He emphasized that Africa is the “shining star of this century” and criticized those with “arrogant, condescending, and orientalist approaches” toward the continent.
