Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has asserted that Türkiye’s capital markets remain robust, despite recent issues within the investment fund sector. His comments came after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, where he emphasized that the problems are confined to a specific segment of the fund market and do not pose a significant threat to the broader financial system.
Erdoğan highlighted the government’s proactive approach in managing the liquidation of affected funds and underscored ongoing efforts to safeguard financial stability and protect investors. He pledged that necessary legal actions would be taken against those responsible for activities that undermine market stability.
The Turkish authorities have initiated investigations into alleged share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks. These developments have resulted in losses and increased redemption pressure on some investment funds. Erdoğan reassured that measures are being implemented to prevent similar issues in the future.
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek confirmed that legal proceedings against those involved are underway and that steps to maintain financial stability will continue. Erdoğan is also scheduled to meet with economic officials and relevant institutions to assess the situation further and discuss additional measures concerning the fund market.
