Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto, to bolster economic collaboration and enhance trade and investment relations between India and Finland. These meetings aimed to explore potential partnerships across various key sectors.
Central to the discussions was the focus on expanding cooperation in areas such as digitalisation, innovation, research and development, and the startup ecosystem. Both nations showed a keen interest in exploring opportunities in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space exploration, and sustainability, reflecting a shared commitment to future-oriented growth.
A significant portion of the meetings centered around the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both countries deliberated on how this potential agreement could serve as a catalyst for enhancing bilateral trade, attracting investment, and creating new business opportunities. The FTA is viewed as a strategic move that could unlock significant economic benefits for both India and Finland.
These discussions are part of ongoing negotiations between India and the European Union to establish a comprehensive trade agreement. The overarching goal is to strengthen economic ties and boost cooperation across various strategic sectors, furthering both regional and global economic interests.
