Netanyahu insists that Israeli troops will remain in Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed. Israeli officials have reported that intelligence assessments suggest Hamas is actively recruiting new fighters, rebuilding its military capabilities, and stockpiling weapons. They argue that pulling out troops prematurely would enable Hamas to regain control of the region, thereby renewing security risks.
The U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal includes several key components: the disarmament of Hamas, the dismantling of its tunnel network, a phased pullout of Israeli forces, the establishment of a Palestinian technocratic administration, the deployment of an international security force, and the reconstruction of Gaza. Despite these elements aimed at stabilizing the region, Israel remains firm on its position that any withdrawal must come only after Hamas has been fully disarmed.
Amid these developments, Israeli airstrikes in recent days have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals, including children. In a separate incident, Palestinians conducted a mass funeral following the discovery of over 100 bodies by rescue teams at the site of a significant Israeli airstrike in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood. This particular airstrike occurred in November 2023, and recovery efforts are ongoing, with many victims still believed to be trapped under the debris.
The current conflict was sparked by an attack from Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 hostages. This attack ignited the ongoing hostilities in Gaza, intensifying the already volatile situation in the region.
