President Donald Trump has reinforced his “America First” military strategy by promising that the current war in Iran will not become a long-term engagement. Trump stated that the mission is “very complete” and that the U.S. and Israel have successfully neutralized the majority of Iran’s defensive capabilities. He assured his party that the “short-term excursion” is fulfilling its primary objectives ahead of schedule.

The conflict was escalated by the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which led to the immediate appointment of his son, Mojtaba, as the country’s new head. Trump has expressed total lack of confidence in the new leader, referring to him as a “lightweight” who cannot fill his father’s shoes. This leadership change has coincided with a wave of Iranian strikes against neighboring Gulf states.

Despite the President’s optimistic timeline, the U.S. military continues to strike targets in Tehran and Isfahan to prevent a resurgence of Iranian power. The Revolutionary Guards have responded by targeting energy infrastructure in Bahrain and the UAE, leading to civilian casualties and environmental damage. The U.S. has countered these moves with even more intense aerial bombardments.

The global economy has been the most visible victim of the war, with oil prices reaching four-year highs before a recent correction. Trump’s warnings against any interference with the Strait of Hormuz have set a clear red line for the Iranian regime. European allies are currently coordinating with the U.S. to ensure that global trade can resume without the threat of drone attacks.

As the war enters its tenth day, Trump is already looking toward the aftermath, suggesting that the U.S. has “won in many ways.” The final phase of the conflict involves securing the region and ensuring that the new leadership in Tehran cannot reconstitute its military. Trump’s focus remains on a clean exit that avoids the pitfalls of previous Middle Eastern interventions.
