OpenAI, the organization behind the revolutionary ChatGPT, has secured its computational future through a landmark deal with Nvidia. The chipmaker has agreed to invest up to $100 billion to help build a dedicated AI infrastructure for OpenAI, addressing the company’s most significant bottleneck: access to elite computing power.
This massive partnership will provide OpenAI with 10 gigawatts of Nvidia’s most advanced systems. This will alleviate the computing constraints that have previously hampered its ability to serve its 700 million weekly users and develop new products. The deal effectively provides a long-term solution to the challenge of scaling AI operations, which are notoriously resource-intensive.
The investment from Nvidia is not merely a financial transaction but a strategic alignment. Nvidia will gain equity in OpenAI, binding the two companies’ success together. The funding is structured to be released in stages, with an initial $10 billion payment linked to the deployment of the first gigawatt of power, ensuring the project progresses on schedule.

The first phase, leveraging Nvidia’s next-gen Vera Rubin platform, is expected to be operational in the latter half of 2026.
