Heavy rain has intensified across Istanbul, heightening concerns about potential flooding and disruptions to transportation services. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center has indicated that the rainfall, which initially impacted certain areas of the city earlier in the day, is expected to pick up again around 11 a.m. and persist through the afternoon before gradually subsiding by 4 p.m.
Accompanying the rain, temperatures have plummeted with the influx of cooler air, falling to about 14°C in the morning and remaining below the typical seasonal averages throughout the day. The meteorological conditions, characterized by cold air aloft and warm, moisture-rich air at the surface, are likely to result in thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy showers.
Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions. These warnings highlight the possibility of sudden flooding, strong winds, lightning strikes, and transportation disruptions, urging residents and commuters to exercise caution.
Despite the current adverse weather conditions, improvements are anticipated starting Thursday. Forecasts suggest that temperatures will rise to around 21°C, with no significant rainfall expected in the coming days.
