Christopher Nolan has addressed the recent debate surrounding his latest film, The Odyssey, affirming his choice to use modern English in the dialogue. The director explained that this decision was made to enhance the emotional accessibility of the ancient story for today’s audiences, despite the historical setting of ancient Greece.
The film’s trailer, which features characters speaking in everyday language, sparked discussions about the authenticity of the dialogue. Nolan defended his approach, stating it was a deliberate choice to prioritize emotional resonance over historical accuracy. He described this decision as a “no-brainer,” fully aware that it might stir controversy.
The Odyssey, a film adaptation of the classic epic, follows the protagonist Odysseus on his perilous journey home following the Trojan War. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway portraying Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous.
This epic adventure is touted as Nolan’s most ambitious project to date, featuring a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o. The movie is scheduled to premiere in Indian cinemas on July 16, before being released internationally.
