Netflix is gearing up for its first-ever live-action series based on Hanna-Barbera’s Scooby-Doo!. The show will feature a young cast portraying the iconic characters, Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, and Velma. Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Midnight Radio, and led by showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, the series is one of Netflix’s most anticipated projects.
The plot will follow the teenage gang during their last summer at camp. A lonely Great Dane puppy witnesses a supernatural murder, and the group finds themselves drawn into a terrifying case that could expose their deepest secrets. The series is described as a modern reimagining that will blend mystery, friendship, and supernatural suspense, creating a fresh narrative for the beloved franchise.
The series will consist of eight hour-long episodes. The Writers Guild of America has the project listed as Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series, though a final title is still pending. Production, which was initially rumored to start in the fall of 2025, has been rescheduled. The new target for filming is early 2026.
This new adaptation aims to honor the spirit of the original cartoon while introducing new narrative elements. The focus on the characters’ origins and a more serious mystery is expected to resonate with a broad audience.
