Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump next week in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, according to U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack. This rendezvous comes after Erdoğan and Trump last met at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they engaged in discussions regarding the alliance’s future and regional security topics. The two leaders have been fostering closer relations between Washington and Ankara throughout Trump’s second term in office.
Erdoğan’s forthcoming meeting with Trump marks their first encounter since September 2025, when the Turkish president visited the White House, marking his first trip to Washington in six years. The upcoming talks are slated to take place during the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, which runs from September 22 to September 28.
