British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will travel to Türkiye on Monday for his first official visit, following an invitation from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications confirmed.

The meeting in Ankara will focus on strengthening Turkish-U.K. relations through a strategic partnership framework. Both leaders are expected to discuss regional and international developments, alongside key areas of bilateral cooperation.

Reports suggest that a major topic will be the finalization of Türkiye’s acquisition of Eurofighter Typhoon jets, a deal involving 40 aircraft jointly produced by Airbus, BAE Systems, and Leonardo. The procurement had previously faced delays due to German objections but is now expected to move forward through a multifaceted agreement that may include additional aircraft transfers from Qatar and Oman.

This visit marks Starmer’s first trip to Türkiye as prime minister and the most significant U.K.-Türkiye engagement since British Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s visit in June. The discussions are expected to deepen defense and diplomatic ties between the two NATO allies.
